Evolve is an organization that promotes gun safety in the
U.S. Their most recent campaign
”Playthings” is making headlines for its risqué theme. With the slogan “If they find it, they’ll
play with it” the ads showcase children playing with sex toys, condoms, tampons
and other adult items kids should not be playing with.
Lets get down to business and evaluate the effectiveness:
Is it effective? Why
or Why not?
Yes! This campaign definitely
makes you stop and take a second look and dare I say it, laugh. The campaign got people talking and was all
over social media. Most people keep
these “adult items” hidden away from their children, the same as they would if
they were to have gun and if kids can find these items and play with it them
then what’s stopping them from playing with a gun.
Does it stimulate a
positive response?
Yes and No. This
campaign is either loved or hated there is no in-between. People have very strong feelings on guns and
gun safety and the humorous approach taken by Evolve definitely got a response
from both sides.
Facebook user Nessa Taylor
had this opinion:
“Here's an idea: teach your
kids how to use guns responsibly and allow them to hold them while you are supervising.
Take them to a gun range and show them the power of a gun. Then, not only is
your child educated, but also knows how to use one should someone ever break
into your home.”
Side note: (Not quite sure how I feel about a 4 yr. old
learning how to use a gun)
Facebook user Steve Davy loved it, stating:
“Absolutely brilliant and
funny as hell!”
